FROM THE LIVER BIRDS, LIVERPOOL

As Tri4Life marks 25 years of adventure, endurance, and community, we knew this milestone deserved something extraordinary.
Enter Bird to Bird—an Ultra Triathlon Challenge as bold and iconic as the Liver Birds themselves. Are you ready to be part of history?
The Ultra Triathlon kicks off at Bella—the majestic Liver Bird who watches over the sea, standing guard over our waters. From in front of her perch, our warriors will embark on the ultimate test of strength and endurance, beginning with an 86-mile run to Windermere in the Lake District.
Upon arrival, they’ll take on a gruelling 21-mile swim across the breathtaking Lake Windermere before tackling a relentless 180-mile bike ride back to Bertie, the watchful male Liver Bird who stands sentinel over our city.
The sheer scale of this ultimate challenge will lead to not one, but two entries into the Guinness World Records. Leading the charge for Tri4Life and the Paul Lavelle Foundation, Steve McHugh will take on the event without a wetsuit, while Martin Pritchard-Howarth will push his limits wearing one—both striving to make history.
While these two trailblazers take on the challenge solo, the event wouldn’t be complete without the incredible support of our dedicated relay team.
Adding to the excitement, our remarkable Tri4Life juniors will also take part, leading each section of the challenge and proving that the spirit of endurance knows no age.
Bird to Bird is more than an ultra-triathlon —it’s a challenge destined for the history books, as legendary as Bella and Bertie themselves.
In remembrance of those we've lost, in the spirit of friendship, and with the unbreakable bond of community, we are proud to celebrate 25 years of Tri4Life with Bird to Bird—a challenge that pushes limits and honours legacies.
The question is… do you have what it takes to join us?
Please note
Our anniversary challenge is open to everyone—free of charge. In the true spirit of community, we welcome participants of all ages and abilities to join us on this unforgettable journey.
