Tri4Life was established in 2000, when grief and bereavement brought together a group of family and friends who wanted to honour their lost loved ones by doing something positive in their memory. Thirteen people came together and competed in our first triathlon, raising vital funds for local charity Stick N Step. And so, Tri4Life was born.
2002
Tri4Life was introduced to Mersey Swim organisers, Jim Tinsley, Bob Jones and Robin Baynes, and compete in their first Across Mersey Swim
2004
Several team members compete in their first Ironman event in Austria, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle and a full marathon 26.2-mile run.
2006
As confidence and camaraderie grew, and Liverpool celebrated the year of Sport and Performance, the Tri4Life team knew that they wanted to do even more to benefit their communities, and the Tri4Life European Challenge 2006 team was launched.
The Tri4Life team complete: · a nonstop cycle relay of 958 miles between John O’Groats and Land’s End · an official two team 23mile relay swim across the English Chanel from Shakespeare Point to Cape Griz Nez under the non-wetsuit Channel Swimming Association rules · a nonstop 150-mile relay run to Brussels, finishing the whole event at European Parliament.
Tri4Life nutrition sponsors, Herbalife, invite the team to compete in the Malibu Triathlon.
2007
Tri-4-Life were invited to compete in the Malibu Triathlon at Zuma Beach, featuring a half-mile ocean swim, a 17-mile bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway, and a 4-mile run. The course started and ended at Zuma Beach, with proceeds supporting paediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
2011
The Mersey Swim continues to be a highlight in the Tri4Life diary, and with the team growing exponentially and Tri4Life children joining the ranks, entry numbers grow to a record number of 86.
2012
The Tri4Life team takes on an epic cycling challenge: a 2800-mile coast-to-coast ride across America from Washington D.C to California. The team is presented with a Congressional Special Achievement Award from the House of Representatives in recognition of our achievements.
A new dimension is brought to Tri4Life, as an international, seven team non-stop relay from London’s Marble Arch to the Arc de Triumph in Paris. The race was a continual one-hour rotation for the 85-mile run to Dover, the 23-mile Across Channel Swim and the 150-mile cycle to Paris.
The Tri4Life team brings their chosen challenges closer to home, with over 50 members of different ages and abilities taking part in the Five countries, Four Mountains, Three Lakes, Two Islands, One Event Challenge.
Raising funds for several charities, the team takes the BIG 7 SWIM Extreme, which saw them experience the tidal flow of the Mersey and a tidal surge around West Kirby, where they were joined on their swim by a rookery of grey seals.
A 12-man team arrives in Durban to take part in the Lesotho Sky 6-day mountain bike stage race covering 360km and 10,000m of climbing in extreme conditions, donating 140 mountain bikes from Liverpool Heartbeat to a Lesotho Rotary President.
The team takes on the Cycles for the Caribbean British Virgin Islands, raising vital funds for Caribbean and BVI communities devasted by the hurricanes of the previous year.
The team completes the PLF Lejog Challenge 2019, once again cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in honour of local charities Claire House and the Paul Lavelle Foundation.
The Great Glen Swim Challenge 2020 was a three-day, 50-mile relay swim across Scotland’s lochs, marking Tri-4-Life’s 20th anniversary and raising funds for the Paul Lavelle Foundation and other causes.
Key members of the Tri-4-Life team organised the "Tougher Than Everest" Challenge, a mountaineering expedition to summit Baruntse (7,129 m) in Nepal's Himalayas. The climb followed the Southeast Ridge, known for its steep ice sections up to 50°, crevassed glaciers, and high-altitude camps, offering a rigorous test even for seasoned climbers.
A group of Tri4Life team members gather in friendship and remembrance of special friends and those who have gone before us in battle to take part in the PLF Wirral to the Somme challenge.
Key members of the Tri4Life team take on their biggest challenge yet: Mount Everest Centenary Challenge 2022, overcoming physical and emotional hurdles to reach the summit.
A group of 40 team members fromTri4Life and the Paul Lavelle Foundation, take part in the 3x3 Challenge: that is, 3 countries, 3 peaks and 3 lakes, in 3 days.
Tri-4-Life participated in the 2023 Yukon Arctic Ultra Challenge in Whitehorse, Canada. The team pulled all the items they needed for the week on a sledge while navigating extreme cold temperatures and challenging terrain over a seven-day period.
Tri-4-Life supported the PLF Bridge Too Far Challenge 2024, an endurance event organised by the Paul Lavelle Foundation. Fifty-four participants cycled from Dunkirk, through Ypres and Antwerp, culminating at the iconic John Frost Bridge in Arnhem, famously depicted in the film A Bridge Too Far.

The Tri-4-Life 25 Year Anniversary Celebration Challenge Starting & Finishing at the Liverpool Liver Buildings. This is a legacy event for future generations to enjoy with a verified GPS route with marked start and end points for the 86 mile RUN, 21 mile SWIM & 180 mile BIKE.
